Just when you thought you had it all figured out Prada comes around and drops animation design on you. According to WWD, Miuccia Prada provided costumes for the Japanese animated film “Appleseed: Ex Machina,” directed by Shinji Aramaki. Prada created two costumes for heroine-warrior Deunan Knute. “Ex Machina” is the sequel to the animated movie “Appleseed,” which was released in 2004. The theme of her fall 2006 collection was “Metropolitan Armor,” a seeming link between her clothes and the film. Coincidently, in “Ex Machina,” Mana Ota, who was the model in Miu Miu’s fall 2006 ad campaign, plays a vocalist for one of the numbers performed in the movie.
Its pretty genius if you think about it, its not much different than the sponsorship deals on sports games, thats if the pretty red prada label actually appears in the game. I guess once the pope was spotted wearing Prada shoes the brand really figured they could do anything, including animation.
The film will be released in Japan on Oct. 20 via Toei Co. Ltd., and will be distributed through Warner Home Video in about 90 other countries, including the U.S.
