Arcade Fire

Last night LCD Soundsystem and the Arcade Fire rocked out the Hollywood Bowl and let me just say, it was amaaazing! I'd seen arcade fire once before at Coachella however it was nowhere near last nights experience. Why you may wonder? A.D.D. Coachella as you may know is stimuli overloaded and it gets the best of me. I obviously hear the bands while my girlfriends and I rock out however I often manage to neglect the actual visuals of the performance. The only time I really pay attention to the bands is in the VIP and artist area and the fact is, performers are much cooler when striking their guitars and making love to their violins. Was that artist tent dropping just obnoxious or what? Anyway, last night I was blown away by the artistry of arcade fire being that I completely missed it the first time I saw them. All those people working together, building a vibe, creating a musical experience, it was unreal. I think the darkness of the venue forced me to focus and it turns out when you actually watch the band you can dance at the same time!

This morning I googled them and low and behold Wikipedia has tons of information: Arcade fire are known for their enthralling live performances, as well as their use of a large number of musical instruments. In addition to mainstays guitar, drums, and bass guitar, members play piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, xylophone, keyboard, French horn, accordion, hurdy gurdy and harp and mandolin. With several able musicians, Arcade Fire take most of their instrumental diversity on tour and band members switch instrumental duties throughout their shows. The band's work features lush, anthemic arrangements and diverse instrumentation, necessitating a larger personnel than a traditional rock band.

And how adorable are husband and wife team Win Butler and Régine Chassagne? Apparently they met in boarding school. 1,2,3 awwwwwwwwwwwww.

They are quite awesome. One of the band members went to Cantebury High School in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This past year they played a concert in the school's cafeteria. It was the must see event of the year, and was AWESOME.
