we first met charles lutz when he began designing the graphics for the yoko devereaux collection. but the brookyn-based artist has taken a new approach to warhol’s idea of consumerism in a new exhibition. using the iconic and omnipresent louis vuitton logo as his background combined with the everyday names of brillo, heinz, and kellogg, lutz references consumerism at every level. the sculpture itself is slightly over five feet tall and is literally a monument to this ongoing concept of consumerism. there will be seven of these monuments as well as one artist proof, and each becomes even more unique than the next with its own color scheme and monogramming.
lutz’s work will be featured in Project One: Icons, 108 Fine Art, Harrogate, England. Sept. 2008.
any thoughts? what do you think, creative or slightly ripping off warhol?

coming from someone so into image.... who buys designer jeans, designer sunnies, designer shoes, etc..... this is an ironic post, don't you think? consumerism at its finest...

Oh I think its fine. Anyone who says they haven't been inspired by someone else is lying.
& Tell that anonymous commenter to kindly fuck off.
Interesting both the art and the commentary!
wow anonymous! why dont you at least say who you are if you are going to act like a jerk?
anonymous not to be rude but do you really find it ironic that someone "into image" would post an article about consumerism art which integrates louis vuitton and prominent american brands? i happen to think it makes perfect sense and is rather fitting.
