HIGH FASHION CRIME SCENES photography by Melanie Pullen

Melanie Pullen is another photographer I've been obsessing over. Her collection of more than one hundred photographs is comprised of High Fashion Crime Scenes based on vintage crime-scene images she mined from the files of the Los Angeles Police Department, the County Coroner’s Office and other primary sources. Drawn to rich details and compelling stories preserved in the criminal records, she began outfitting the “victims” (her selected models) in current haute couture, and photographing them in her staged settings.

If you're in LA you can check out her exhibit at Ace Gallery. Creepy neatoooooo.

I featured her work in my blog too last May. I adore her High Fashion Crime Scenes, the pictures and the idea behind them, but it seems a lot of people find them really disturbing, pointing out they glamorize violence against women. I personally find there's more criticism than a mere spectacularization of crime.

There's a hint of Guy Bourdin's aesthetics in her work, don't you think?

Fashion photography really needs artists who does this kind of innovative work. Another 'leaping models' photoshoot and I might just lose it. Thanks for posting this!
