I can't turn my head without spotting ripped up / bleach splattered indigo. I'm down with the look but it amazes me how many people buy into the "it trends."
i agree with you! its really frustranting because then you might be a true iniviual who may happen to like ripped jeans but if you wear them you look like a trend hound...
i try not to fallow all the trends and i have to agree with you FOR SURE..however..i live on the scottsdale/phoenix cusp where "it trends" are big, fake boobs, fake tans and stuff you see in the V.S. catalog ..no one even seems to know about the really new trends like the bleached and ripped jeans or any of the great new or even the classic designers, with exception of LV bag, and if they do know, it is only because the have oogles of money and shop all over the world, or at niemans. it is like we are in bubble, separated from the fashion world. the people here are either artists, "emo", rockabilly or just plain fake..so i work (some of) these trends, esp. because most of them make me feel comfortable, and it seems like people think i am from another planet.. what do you do in a town where people are so clueless? (as are the shops) i am sure you know we are sooo much different than L.A. or NYC, so all the great stuff you can find..we can not.can i have anybodies feed back on this??
I get what you mean. Ive been rocking ripped jeans for a while, but now you have to put a little twist on it. Im sure some imagination will do the trick.
Not me - it's just not my style, you won't even catch me with a rip in my hem.
Though there are tons of other things that I loved before they became trendy, like gladiator shoes, so when I wear them now I feel like a whore. Trend whore. But I'll still wear them (thankfully the trend isn't full blown here in Vancouver because when I wore my gladiators last summer I got a LOT of weird looks).
Agreed, especially amongst the blogosphere. Seems like there is style mockery (more specifically, erin wasson copycats), rich girls gone wild in mummys closet or girls that throw on everything and the table cloth. My eyes glaze over just thinking of the lack of individualism.
I also feel like purposely going against the grain is a way to lose your individualism. It's just that those who purposely "rebel" are even more likely to think that they're being unique.
It definitely seems like trends are played out if you are into reading fashion blogs, but I find that in "real life," not that many people are fashion-forward. If I wore ripped/bleached jeans around, I'd definitely get stares/comments.
I completely understand how you feel about trendiness, though... but if you really want to wear the jeans, wear them, I guess!
the ones on the left are done right. (ha, left/right!). the rest of them somehow don't quite cut it for me. but i do like trends that are tricky like that.
also, people in stockholm are just so cool in general that it's depressing. i have swedish genes but i doubt i can ever fully live up to my heritage. the style just oozes from their pores.
More than anything, I detest trend followers. I mean, true, if you like it, then do it.. But there are some things that are annoying like jumping on every. single. trend!

Feel.That.
I tried to shred some jeans, but honestly...I felt like I was rehashing my jeans I shredded in 1999 after the Lil Kim video "No Matter What They Say."
I felt so dirty. LOL.
Good luck on your quest for "true individualism"! Ha ha ha Kiss
well, I like this first one, but I am not very into this trend

You're my favorite.
Don't go with trends.
And don't wear ALL black. Because THAT's a trend as well.
:)

WORD homie.
unfortunately, thats not the case for me. Im dying to see a pair in real life, and find that the only way I will be able to is to make a pair myself.
ahh love the ones on the right,
i feel this trend is going to be absolutely everywhere this summer. like gladdiators ahhh

Great post.
i do agree..but i really like the long john's under ripped jeans look..xxx
I kind of like the left and the middle - those look interesting and "original" to me.

Wow, this definitely has not made it to Hong Kong yet (we're still stuck in the leggings/black/grey of the winter). Very interesting.
I really love the first and second.
