block of light

I'm completely infatuated with design
and lately have been consumed with eco-architecture and light fixtures. I know, strange juxtaposition.

How sweet are these ice looking block lamps d
esigned by Harri Koskinen? I'm not sure if there is an underlying theme but wouldn't it be cool if the design is a play on the shrinking glaciers as a result energy use? The idea behind that in itself would remind people to turn off the damn lights (hopefully).

I like it! Having one would make me feel a bit like I was staying in the Ice Hotel.

This was Harri's final work at design school. And it also belongs into a collection of New York Museum of Modern Art.

wow that whole 'energy saving, climate changing, ice melting' idea is really really good! Never would have thought of that myself.
