If you frequent ‘Juice Served Here,’ or any of the juice bars, you may have noticed the rise of chlorophyll water. You may also have noticed the rise of girls dribbling green drops into their water or juice…also chlorophyll! So what is chlorophyll and why is it everywhere? Let’s discuss…

Going back to middle school science, c
hlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants which absorbs energy from light in the process of photosynthesis. This harnessed energy is what allows plants to grow and flourish.

It’s become a hot trend for a handful of suspected benefits. First off, the chlorophyll molecular structure is almost identical to that of hemoglobin, the substance our bodies use to build and transport red blood cells. Therefore, chlorophyll can actually help do the job of hemoglobin, increasing the quantity and quality of red blood cells in your body. More healthy red blood cells mean better oxygen absorption in the bloodstream, which means more all around energy and oxygen utilization in the body.

The other slew of suggested benefits: energy booster, immunity booster, wound healing, hormonal balance, deodorizing and detoxification of the body and promotes digestive health. Chlorophyll a good source of vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K and beta carotene. Chlorophyll is rich in antioxidants, vital minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium and essential fatty acids.

Not too shabby, ay? I started adding the drops to my water a few months back and have become quite fond of drinking it daily right around my 2pm midday slump. The brand I’ve been using (this one) has a bit of a minty flavor and I find it to be rather refreshing. If drops aren’t your thing, chlorophyll can also be ingested in capsule or powder form.

Are you into it?

  1. Thanks for sharing this information, for a few years now I have been using plant based skin care that have similar rejuvenation property, but of course that is just at the surface of the skin. I’ll give this a try.

  2. My dad has cancer and has a weak immune system, he’s been adding this to his water every morning and has been going strong. He has opted to take a more holistic clean way of healing and this in addition to other changes seems to be doing great. I think it’s a great thing for Everyone to do to prevent and clean our bodies. I’m into it?

  3. chlorophyll a itsself is a molekule and can never be a source of vitamins or minerals. The solution of the chl a may though but it is important to name when you go back to middle school science anyway…

  4. Interesting post! I’ve been drinking chlorophyll water for probably 20 years, but I’ve never actually seen anyone else drink it. Haha! I love it. Tastes so fresh and good and makes me feel refreshed. Such great health benefits as well.
