I Tried The IV Vitamin Drip And Here’s What Happened

I Did The IV Vitamin Drip & Here Is What Happened
Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that perform hundreds of roles in the body. They help shore up bones, heal wounds, and bolster your immune system. They also convert food into energy and repair cellular damage.

So naturally, vitamins and minerals are heavily debated. Are we getting enough? Too much? And what’s the best way to make sure we’re hitting our daily dose? Read enough articles on the topic and your eyes may swim with the alphabet-soup references to these nutrients (vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K—just to name a few).

While eating a healthy diet remains the best way to get sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals, there’s a huge market for vitamin supplements (or as some call it, expensive urine) and as of late people have found another way to get their daily dose: intravenously aka the IV vitamin drip.

Allegedly this is how the IV vitamin drip works:

Intravenous (IV) Vitamin Drip delivers vitamins, minerals, and amino acids directly to the body for maximum absorption, allowing the nutrients to flood your body and nourish you on a cellular level. Nutrients bypass the digestive tract which means faster and more concentrated absorption than with oral supplements. Plus, larger doses of nutrients can be administered intravenously then orally, so you’ll feel better faster.

Suspected IV vitamin drip benefits:

Boost energy and immunity, cure a hangover, improve sexual function, burn fat, aid in de-stressing, help fight jet lag, and more.

My Results:

Due to the high demand for the “secret” remedy, we couldn’t NOT try it. So in this week’s episode of ‘The Wellness Experiment,’ we did exactly that (watch it here), and I totally regret it! In fact, I’ve been upset with myself since filming the episode. Why on earth did I let a nurse at a “wellness clinic” put a needle in my arm and GD knows what liquid directly into my bloodstream? Poor judgement, really, really poor judgement. And on top of being upset with myself, I actually felt TERRIBLE (instant headache, fatigue, and nauseous), I now have the flu (ironic?), and to make matters worse, I look terrible. I have acne all over my face for the first time in years which is an unfortunate side effect of B12 unbeknown to me. Here is a selfie the day before we did the IV drip and here and here are pictures from days after. Brutal! And if you think I had it bad, watch the episode to see what happened my friend Erin who I went with.

So, in summary, I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER do a “one size fits all” IV vitamin drip again. After talking to several medical professionals the correct way to do this is with a doctor who panels your blood and creates a custom bag of high quality vitamins based on your needs and deficiencies. I still believe that when properly approached, IV vitamin drips can have tremendous benefits.

Has anyone else tried it? What was your experience like? What are your thoughts?

  1. The same thing happened to me! So sorry you went through it too but happy you’re spreading the word that the IV Vitamin trend is BS. It’s only effective for people who have deficiencies. Keep up the great work. Love this series.

  2. Wow! I have gotten vitamin shots before but never the drip. On more than one extreme hangover occasion I have considered forking over the high dollars because I have heard it does work wonders but thank you for this review. Wondering if you would ever try another company or if you are done with Vitamin Drips all together?

  3. Stopping by to let you know that I’m a big fan of the show and appreciate your honesty. So many “wellness” bloggers are inauthentic and “love everything” with the word wellness associated with it. It’s refreshing to hear a real perspective.

  4. Girl. Nooooo! I’ve been following you since you started (which was before medschool for me) and had I checked in sooner, I would have warned you. Glad you’re okay and only just reacted to the high toxicity levels. You’ll be fine. I’ve seen people rush in with clots, infections and damaged arteries from some hydration clinic person forcing a cannula into their vein multiple times & loading them up. Without major deficiencies, just ingest your vits through your gut and take the supplements pre-partying/sex/onset illness or whatever x

  5. Hi,
The same happened to me I did the B12 IV drip and after my face broke out with acne I never had acne before and now don’t know how long till it goes away it already has been 2 months and still have it. What did you do to go away and how long did it take? Never again I’m doing that it just messed up my face.

    1. so sorry to hear that that happened to you! it’s the worst, i’ve been there. i went to a dermatologist and facialist regularly until it cleared up – it took about two months – but it did get better! the key is not to pick at it to avoid scarring. i hope your skin gets better soon!

  6. I have a friend who’s doing it with no issues but I am concerned about getting this done without proper medical guidance (what you are lacking before hand). Acne issues are no fun and can cause major damage to your skin untreated. My husband is a Dermatology Rep and can connect you with the #1 Acne treatment in North America. He gives you customized treatment exclusively for you at a discount. I’m a Cosmetologist and have worked in the Beauty industry for over 20 years. If any of you would like advice or help I’m happy to help you! Please seek medical advice before EVER doing an IV drip of ANY KIND!

    1. Jeanette, there is no such thing as topical acne treatments that work. Acne comes from inner toxicity, poor gut and liver health.

  7. Its likely the flu virus was contracted during the the yoga time. Same concept when children go to play at those activity zones. You touched (and your face touched) things and items that dozens of people before you touched. Not only that but flipping around in the material just gives flight to every little microbial and where do you think they went?….yep, right up your nose and in your mouth. Viruses and bacteria were just waiting for you. I challenge you to try an IV drip alone and see if theres a difference. And maybe go to a place that is more geared toward an aeseptic and medical approach. Most legit IV therapy practices dont have drapes and dim lighting or any cloth type things in the area for that matter. plus something that is important to know for wellness seekers is that the only IV drips that have an imediate benefit from a one time treatment are the blends that are for hangovers or for energy alone. The drips that you both received would be more of a variable maintenance type of therapy with noted benefits over a few weeks to months of repeat treatments. The girl that had the anxiety symptoms afterwards was a result of the combination of the nutrients in her blend. Magnesium can give a person a sense of flushing and can definitely make you feel sleepy depending on the dose. The B12 in her drip is what made her feel anxious due to the increase in heart rate plus it seems as though she has some general chronic anxiety anyway. The feeling of sleepy slughishness paired with increased heart rate and anxiety can send someone into a whole world of hell for a short period. Her best nutrient options would be things like vitamin C, glutathione and the CALM injection which has GABA, Taurine, Theanine and magnesium. Dont knock IV therapy until youve tried it legitimately. Everything about that place just screams fancy hole in the wall. And if you dont want to try it again at least do a few google searches on the benefits of IV vitamin C and IV glutathione. Those are the two biggest and most widely used in IV Therapy practices and an educated google search will tell you why.

  8. Would you go to your nail salon to get you lr botox?

You are actually doing harm for many people that can trully benefit from IV therapy DONE BY TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

  9. I was just googling the vitamin drip. Thank you for your feedback. I will not be getting anything. Just my luck, I will be vomiting, sweating, and getting dizzy. No thanks!

    1. lol…. these girls, or at least one has anxiety to start with….. yoga gave her anxiety…. putting a needle in her arm, would likely do the same, they r ridiculous… entertaining to say the least.

  10. Jeannette, acne doesn’t mean “toxicity”in every case. You can eat clean (protein and veggies and fruits and grains), drink water and still get acne..mine is hormonal and didn’t appear until my 30s..I also have Hashimotos (autoimmune thyroid disease)..Acne doesn’t mean something’s rotting inside you or something is bad in every case.

  11. You guys are really a typical mean girls with lots of time on your hands…
Anyone can get minor acne, maybe wash your face after rubbing it with your hands? Or even better, wash your hands?
To put this awful review is completely unethical and unacceptable! The fact that you are suffering with major anxiety disorder might be a key in you so called “IV Drip experience”…. They poked you with 24G needle which actually is truly used for NEWBORN babies… local numbness of your arm is normal and Im more then sure you blew this “MY ARM SO NUMB BS” out of proportions… Please go back and make a right choice by deleting it.
There is no such a thing as a
P.S. Have been getting drips and boosters for over 4 years, love them and very thankful to all hard working nurses out there!!!!
