A New Journey

Geri Hirsch pregnant
If you saw my Instagram yesterday, you know that I made a very, very special announcement. If not, I’m feeling extremely blessed to share that Baby Friedman (my married name) is coming early 2018. All the feels right here!

I’m 22 weeks and feeling good finally! The morning sickness and migraines for the first four months were pretty brutal, and truth be told, are to blame for why I was pretty quiet on social media all summer (got lots of questions about that). Good news is that I’m back in action and feel like my old self again: energized, positive and ready to take on the world.

Through the rough times, I tried to stay positive and focused on practicing gratitude, albeit, I’m not going to pretend like there weren’t really hard days. There have been many, but I can’t tell you how ready I am to be a mother, and how fortunate I feel to be in this position. While I’m ecstatic to share my news today, I share it with the utmost respect for all women out there who are on their own journeys to becoming mothers, wherever you may be in the process.

Along with the announcement, I wanted to drop a line on the blog to give you a quick look into how this blog will run with the newest addition to the fam! I promise that this isn’t going to turn into a mom’s only blog, but I’d love your feedback on what you’d like to see (or not)! Please let me know if you care to read about things like my pregnancy style (which I’m in the midst of figuring out with a growing bump – the struggle has been real), how I prepped my body for pregnancy, how my diet has changed, my personal struggles, what clean beauty products I’m loving as a mama-to-be, nursery decor, etc. Or, if you’re not into that at all?

Also, I’d love to know, how many of you are moms?

  1. Hi Geri! We are the same age and I get a lot of backlash for waiting “so long” to get pregnant myself. I am curious which ways you prepped your body for pregnancy and how you were able to combat any backlash you may have faced. Thanks!!

  2. Fantastic news! I’m a long time follower. Currently 30 weeks pregnant and CAN’T WAIT to be a first time mom! Maternity clothes have been tough. However finding stretchy dresses that are NOT maternity have helped me stay comfy and feeling great. And companies like HATCH are a dream! They make clothes you can wear during and after pregnancy!
Also, finding a good pair of leggings was a must. It’s probably the most important piece of clothing I own right now.

  3. Hi Geri! Congratulations on your little bundle. I’m just three weeks behind you in my pregnancy journey and am SO grateful to finally read about someone who’s early pregnancy days weren’t total bliss (mine were far from it). In those tough days, I was often searching the people I follow to read about their pregnancy experiences and so many people seemed to have glowing pregnancies–I really just needed to hear that I wasn’t alone!

I’ve been finding the prenatal style to be lacking, so you should definitely post your experience on that front, I’m sure moms-to-be will reference that for years to come, especially if you can share some great tricks!

Congratulations again and thank you for sharing.

  4. Congratulations! I saw your announcement on Instagram yesterday. I’ve followed your blog from the beginning and would love to see posts on all of the things you mentioned. I’m not a mum but I think it’s nice to see different posts as your life changes at different stages and think it’s nice that you can ‘document’ these things to look back on yourself, as well as help others, whether it’s now or for things they could possibly expect in the future. Are you finding out the gender or having a surprise? x

  5. Congratulations!! I’m a new mom so i’m really interested in posts about becoming a mom and anything mom related. I’m a long time reader so I feel like I’m following you in this journey as well. =)

  6. Couldn’t be happier for you, especially with your husbands near death experience. This must be an emotional time! Would love to take in as much as you’re willing to give. Congratulations!

  7. I am a mother of two boys, 1 and 3, and I love your blog. I did wonder why you weren’t posting as much on instagram and Snapchat! Congratulations! It would be wonderful if you shared your journey of pregnancy and motherhood.

  8. So funny, my friends and I were just talking about how you’ve gotten quiet on social media and we were sort of worried. Relieved to see that this is why and wishing you nothing but the best!

  9. Hi!

I’m so, so happy for you! What an incredible and humbling journey. My little lady, Hendrix Lou, is officially 9 months and my greatest joy.

I loved all of your content ideas. I feel like so many mommy/gourmand/stylish/fashion/wellness bloggers struggle– why can’t we share all of these aspects of our lives?! ! I, for one, would love to see more content from women who are balancing various roles, responsibilities and interests. I certainly struggled with this right before we found out we were pregnant and didn’t resume blogging until this summer– big mistake. Women want to hear from you and mommies want to be inspired along the way. Niche be damned!

Congratulations again! Find a loving and supportive community (for Dan as well!) especially after Baby F arrives. Best wishes!

  10. YES! I’m pregnant too and need more wellness mamas in my life because there’s a shortage. Or I just can’t seem to find any that aren’t crunchie hippies!

  11. Congratulations! I know this will sound wishy-washy, but I think you should post what feels right for this stage of your life. If it’s about pregnancy, becoming a mom, mothering, etc. then go for it! And if not, that’s fine too! I’m 22, not even thinking about babies yet, but I love reading all of it.

  12. Firs, congratulations! Second, I’m not a mom but I’m in the trying boat and would love to read whatever you put out there.

    Be well,

    Megan

  13. Hi! I am a working mom of a 14month old (and hope to have a few more babies); would love to hear about everything you mentioned above and how you balance the working mom gig; I am currently on a business trip with husband and babe because I travel for work and won’t leave her alone overnight. Good luck to you and congrats….I’m on your blog daily constantly forwarding relevant posts to friends and family (even employees!) thanks for all you do!

  14. Hi there Geri-

    (I’m a mom, btw)

I think your blog has already shifted over time. I remember the days when you posted photos of your outfits, and saw how that evolved into these professional collaborations that were super neat to hear about. I think you were a bit ahead of your time in transitioning to talking more about health and wellness. The rest of us caught up in due time. I think we enjoy the think pieces you’ve been posting as of late too. Of course, it’s your call about what you want to write about (it’s your blog). But I think we’re along for the journey and learning along the way with you. LEAF, on the other hand, had a really clear business focus and wasn’t built solely around you and Erin. It had legs of its own, a focus on health and wellness seemingly targeted at people under 30 who are single and child-free.

I think several other women noted that the first trimester can be brutal. Some of us were sick until the day we delivered. Pregnancy can be brutal. I know you’ve riffed in the past about pregnancy and asking questions about family planning (and how in asking those kinds of questions, you never know when you’re about to cause someone a lot of pain.) So, there may be people who are long time readers of the blog who need to step away. I think we’re all adult enough to understand and respect that.

    Take care!

  15. Yes! I remember you mentioned you guys were trying. Congratulations. This is soo cool! Very happy for you.
I would definitely love to hear how you prepped your body for pregnancy and how you changed your diet. Would also love pregnancy style ideas.
Xoxo, from someone who is trying. 😊

  16. First of all, CONGRATS! Second of all I am absolutely ecstatic to hear about your journey with this. As someone who strongly believes in women being open and honest about their pregnancy, I also look forward to hearing how women who are healthy conscious may take it on. In other words, don’t hold back! Share it all because we all need to be educated by other women’s experiences!

  17. truly exciting & I would personally love to hear about wellness things related to your pregnancy. I’m not yet in that phase of my life, but we have a baby coming along elsewhere in my family tree (around the same time, I’m guessing) so am more interested to hear about these things. it would be great to hear your trials & errors, as I feel your approaches are very practical, as opposed to some other blogs.

vitamins / diet & cravings / workout & activity / stress management / natural alternatives / balance / bonding / general tips / discipline – while pregnant & with a newborn are all things I would be excited to read.

perhaps in a few years I’ll recall advice from you when I try growing my own family. happy for you – be well!

    love from SKorea [:

  18. Geri,
Congratulations! I’m a long time follower (you’re my favorite blogger!) and this is probably the first comment I’ve ever left on any blog, period. I’m so excited for you and would love to follow your journey through pregnancy/motherhood. I’m currently 39 weeks pregnant and can’t wait to hear about all of your recs!

    Lots of love,
    Shrutee

  19. I would LOVE to hear all things baby and how you have navigated this new time in your life. Everything from wardrobe and all the things you listed above!

  20. Mama over here! My son is now eight years old so I’m not in the new Mama club but I still would love for you to share this huge new part of you with us!

  21. I am so excited to follow you on this journey!!!. I am a 36 year old mother of an almost two year old. I would love to hear everything related to this topic. Yes to all of it!!!

  22. Congrats, Geri! What an exciting time! As new mama myself to my 2 month old, I’m still figuring things out and adjusting to a new life of ALL things baby these days so I look to other new mamas to relate, hearing about their real experiences. From prepping for the little babe, style and nesting your nursery, to your breastfeeding journey (the most difficult for me), I’d love to read it all. X

  23. I would love to know how you prepared your body for pregnancy and how your diet is changing. My husband and I are going to start trying early next year so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  24. I’d love to know how you prepped your body – it’s been something I’ve been working on lately before my husband and I start trying to get pregnant.

  25. Hi Geri!

I’m was so happy to see your post last night. Big congrats! I’m so excited for you guys. Your going to be the best and cutest mommy/blogger out there. Please share your experiences, even if it’s all pregnancy/mommy related. As a mom, who’s kind of lost touch with fashion etc, since I live in yoga pants and hair buns, it’s always fun to see how other moms handle their lives. I can’t wait to follow your baby journey. Xoxo Michelle

  26. Hi Geri! Mazel tov!!! Thanks for sharing your pregnancy journey with all of us. I’m a mom of 3, and had all 3 of them in 4 years 😳 I want to encourage you is to enjoy the little quiet moments, and remember to keep it simple. Sometimes there’s a lot of pressure to buy tons of gear and accessories, but the truth is, babies and kids don’t need a lot, mostly your unconditional love and support and a few good toys that foster creativity. Also, the Blanqi leggings/tights are reallllly great!

  27. Mazels on your pregnancy Geri! I remember reading your post a few months back about being sensitive with topics such as pregnancy, pregnancy loss, etc. It was very thoughtful and a great reminder. I’m 15 weeks into motherhood with a baby boy named Wylder. It’s been such a beautiful and definitely hard at times, learning experience! Would love to hear all about the rest of your pregnancy and definitely true insight about how you feel, ups and downs, once the baby is born. There’s nothing like it! I started following many moms once I become pregnant and hearing their true stories and day to day really helped and still does. Sending all the best wishes to your fam. X Talia

  28. I would love to read how you prepared for pregnancy, the clean lifestyle choices that are the most helpful and/or have had the biggest impact, and the top secret or not-so-top secret most toxic things to avoid/look out for.

I’m so happy for you and your family!! Thank you for sharing this with us, your readers and fans.

  29. Congratulations, Geri! Such such such exciting news!!!! Even though I just got married and am not ready for that step yet myself, I’m so excited for you to incorporate this into your content πŸ™‚ Always continually learning from, inspired, and impressed by you. Bring on the baby content, I cant wait to see how you take it all on. Go girl!! Xx

  30. Congratulations! So happy for you, you’re going to be the coolest mom ever.
Also I’m mom of three awesome kids, can’t rememberhow it was before;)

  31. Geri, I’m so so so excited for you and so happy for the new chapter of your life!
I can’t wait to see the changes on your blog and I’m sure you’ll be just fine! Sending you tons of love!

  32. Congratulations! I’m so happy for you! Sending positive vibes for you.
    I’m not a mum yet, someday… =)
But, I would love to know all about yours! Thank you so much for sharing!
Good luck for this new chapter of your life! =D

  33. Congratulations! I am a mother to a 9 month old boy. I too struggled for the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Just thinking about it now makes me shudder! But luckily, the last 20 weeks of pregnancy were great. I love reading about pregnancy and motherhood, so look forward to seeing how your blog evolves!

  34. Hi Geri!! Congratulations!! I have been following your for a while now and although motherhood is a very personal thing, it is worth sharing… I think it’s just natural for your blog to evolve with you.
I am a mom of two awesome kids. Sending you lots of cool vibes from France

  35. So grateful that you’re entering into the mom world for selfish reasons. Could use an inspiring mom to follow. Congratulations girlie!

  36. Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you! My husband and I are ttc and this is our third month..so I would love to hear how you prepped your body and any tips! It’s only been 3 months for us, but it’s still hard to see a big fat negative preg test. Anyway, I’m excited about all the topics altogether as, hopefully, soon too be a mama to be! πŸ™‚

  37. Beautiful picture! I’m a mom of 3 and became a Grandma on April 13, 2016. I’m only 39 but love my granddaughter, Sariah so much.
Glad you are feeling better. I was sick for 6 months during my last pregnancy.

  38. Congrats!!! The most important thing is CHANGE YOUR DIET, STAT! Remember, the ONLY WAY a female can get rid of toxin dioxins from animal byproducts is through the fetus and through breast milk. Give your baby a fresh, clean start into life!!
(watch What The Health on Netflix for more info on why its so important for your baby)

  39. Congrats! I just hit 26 weeks and am suddenly struggling to dress this basketball bump so VERY interested in how you’ll work your killer style – any tips you have for fellow mamas-to-be are definitely interesting to this reader! Glad you’re feeling well again – it’s like a new lease on life when that finally hits πŸ™‚

  40. Congratulations! I’m so excited for you. I’m around your age and while I’m not quite there yet, I still appreciate reading about all things around pregnancy so I can prepare myself — this is especially compelling given your wellness background!

Best wishes for a safe, healthy pregnancy! Can’t wait to read along!

  41. Congratulations! I am mum to 6 month old twin boys and I can honestly say it’s the best (and most challenging ) thing I’ve ever done. I’d love to see the content of your blog evolve to include motherhood. Enjoy these middle months when you no longer feel sick and have your energy back. Wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy and birth and remember to be kind to yourself and allow yourself plenty of time to adjust when your baby arrives.
