How To Have A Humbleness Check-In

Do you ever have a moment happen in your life that inadvertently makes you feel humbled? I had one of those moments recently and it got me thinking – what if we all took a second every once in a while to have a humbleness check-in.

Hear me out.

It’s not that I think we’re all a bunch of horrible people, but what do we have to lose? Sometimes we can all get so wrapped up in our own lives that we forget being humble is more than just simple everyday kindness. Or not being coincided. It can be us getting more focused on ourselves/lives that we forget we live in a huge world. Or it can be us just spending too much time in our own bubble.

If you feel like you could check yourself, here are a few questions to ask yourself for your first official humbleness check-in:

  • In the last conversation you had with a friend, did you listen more than you talked?
  • When was the last time you volunteered?
  • Do you usually introduce yourself or wait for someone to ask/introduce you?
  • When was the last time you learned something from someone else?
  • Have you asked for feedback on anything recently? If so, have you taken note of what you could improve?
  • When’s the last time you gave just to give?
  • What are you 10 things you’re grateful for?
  • How can you help someone today?

I think checking in with yourself like this about once a quarter or so could actually have an amazing and positive impact. Definitely something I’m going to start incorporating into my overall wellness routine.

Anyone already doing this? How has it affected you?

  1. I’m in a job where I feel totally underappreciated by everyone but my direct boss, who is an angel. my humbleness checkin comes from my sweet husband who reminds me that I’m at work to do a job- not for the thanks. and I do the 10 things I’m grateful for to help manage my anxiety. great list!

  2. I listen to a daily devotional every morning as a way of reducing my morning anxiety, and one of the take aways this week is asking how you could be helpful to someone. I’ve started doing this daily and I’m shocked that I’ve been helpful every single day since!

  3. You know I was just thinking about this today! Sometimes I feel like I’m just not caring enough or aren’t putting that extra bit of humbleness in my days because I’m too caught up stressing about how busy I am. It’s reading things like this that give you that reality check. Thanks for sharing, G!
