Are You Touched Out?

Are you a tired mom who at the end of the day simply doesn’t want to be touched by anyone? Not a hug from a friend, a shoulder rub by a stranger, and certainly not by your partner in bed?

Turns out, there’s a term for that and it’s called being “touched out.”

Feeling touched out is as straight forward as it sounds. You have simply been touched too much for your own comfort throughout the day, leading you to a state of not wanting to be touched at all. The sensory overload has caused you to feel a psychological and physical threshold and all you need is a little bit of space for yourself.

As moms with little people glued to us throughout the day, and possibly sucking on you every three or so hours while breastfeeding, it can be a lot. Even though we love all the snuggles, it’s also human nature to need time alone, untouched, and unbothered.

So, if you’ve been feeling like you don’t want anyone to touch you, just know that you’re not alone. Millions of moms across the globe feel the same way.

  1. That was totally me when the kids were little and I used to talk to my friends about it. By the end of the day, I didn’t want anyone to touch me… or ask anything of me… and that’s usually right about when Paul would come home from work. Poor Paul, got the brunt of it.
