5 Books That’ll Make This Year Better Than the Last

January is always one of the best months to relax into a few books, specifically ones that’ll keep the new year motivation going into the year. Here are 5 that were made for an inspiring start to your 2019. Enjoy!

‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama

No matter your political views, we can all agree that the former first lady is special. Her book/biography was one I couldn’t wait to read and I breezed through it, feeling all kinds of motivation to be a better female this year. She’s a beautiful storyteller and it’s a reminder of what hard work, respect, and standing up for what you believe in can do. It’s true!

Zen Habits

I actually mentioned this book a couple of years ago as a book that positively changed my life – but it’s worthy of a repeat. Especially when we’re discussing books to make your year better. This book is a super simple read and it’s all about living with less but with greater intention – whether that be in your home,  in your habits, in your career, and so on. This book has changed my life more than any I’ve ever read and it’s under $10. Trust!

Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives

‘The Happiness Project’ is still one of my favorite reads of all time (and another one that can most definitely make your year better). This book on habits, written by the same author, is perfect for January since it’s all about developing habits that last.  So whether you’re wanting to eat better or get to bed earlier, this should help.

‘The Clean Plate’ by Gwyneth Paltrow

GP is out with another book to make life better and this one is a serious goodie. Full of clean meals that are meant to heal and reset your system with quality ingredients, as always, her book is beautiful. I’ve only tried a few recipes so far, but everything is delish and perfect for post-holidays detoxing. If you’re looking for a new set of recipes that are nourishing, let this be it.

The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World

This book is written by two of the most joyful people in this world (the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu) and essentially it’s about happiness. Filled with reminders of simple pleasures, spiritual practices, and insights on compassion and joy, I wish every adult was required to read it. It’s one you’ll come back to again and again, especially when you could use a boost of joy or gratitude.

  1. Those are great recommendations! I am especially intrigued now by The Book of Joy, sounds super interesting and Becoming is on my want to read list for the upcoming months.
Right now I am reading a book by Colleen Hoover though, it’s a little bit of a lighter, funnier and romantic read, yet I like those from time to time 🙂 definitely prefer books that really make an impact in my life though!

  2. I just finished There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather. All about the importance of reinforcing your child’s connection to nature as a parent. I loved it!
