Can we please discuss how rad the work of Paris-born, London-based artist Noemie Goudal's is? I tumbl'd the first shot merely a year ago and have been a fan ever since. Her photography is rooted firmly in the creation of what many have coined 'conception volumique', a phrase borrowed from design production to refer to site-specific sculptural installations that render unclear whether it is the location, installation, or image that is the artwork itself. Across various photographic series, Goudal frequently works with largescale paper backdrops, juxtaposed closely with the existing landscape and blurring the bounds of the real and the fictional.

"I wish to offer through my photographs escapes into alternative landscapes where the reconstruction of new lands is made possible. The journey inside the image will invite the viewer to enter the space as well as entering the narrative of a ‘make-believe’, bringing him into the game between fiction and reality in which one can identify the fragility of one’s own desires." - Noemie Goudal

diy neon lace clutch

Soph (pictured in the final shot - isn't she just ador?) and I are guessing that you have a clutch (or two and specifically THIS one) sitting untouched on your shelf. Are we right or are we right? Well today is that clutches lucky day! It's time to dust that bad boy off and re-invigorate the staple with a little neon lace makeover à la Christopher Kane SS 11.

How to: DIY Neon Lace Clutch

You will need:
Salvaged tank top from the abyss of your closet or neon lace fabric
Old clutch or makeup bag
Scissors
Fabric glue
Needle and thread

1. Cut along the seam of your tank top to split open and lay your clutch inside with seams parallel to one another.

2. Fold over the open flap to cover the clutch and cut off excess fabric along the outer edges of the clutch.

3. Turn the fabric inside out and sew along 3 of the edges to create a case to fit your clutch inside of.

4. Turn the fabric right side out so that the edges are seamless and slip your clutch into the lace shell.

5. Glue down the fabric to the clutch and let dry.

It is a way of making comparisons between different representations of women, created at different times, and Barbie, a figure with a firm hold on our imaginations."

How to: DIY Leather Fringe Keychain

You will need:
4 Ft. leather cord
Scissors
1 D-Ring (we bought ours at Jo-Ann Fabrics)
Keyring

1. Cut four 12 inch pieces of leather cord.

2. Tie lark's head (cow hitch) knots by folding one piece in half then thread through the D-Ring.

3. Loop through and pull tight to create one piece of fringe.

4. Continue to do this with the 3 remaining pieces of leather.

5. Attach your new and improved keyring and voilà!

"In a heavily wooded country like Sweden, it comes as no surprise when one comes across a hotel deep in the forest. However, the Treehotel is something beyond the ordinary. Located in Harads, a village in the northern part of the country with only 600 inhabitants, the hotel has made the forested region a touristic attraction.

Designed by some of Scandinavia’s leading architects such as Martin Videgård and Bolle Tham as well as Mårten & Gustav Cyrén, the hotel promises to reconnect its guests with nature. The hotel, which first opened in July 2010, consists of five tree-rooms and the owners Britta and Kent Lindvall, expect to build a total of 24 tree-rooms by 2012. All of the rooms harmoniously blend into the natural environment with the aim of making a minimal ecological footprint. Each room is located four to six meters above the ground and they all share the magnificent views of the surrounding natural environment. The rooms themselves vary in size from 15-30m2." - Yatzer

diy thank you notes

Between shopping for gifts (which subsequently resulted in impulse purchases for oneself. you know, like that nye dress), travel expenses and general shenanigans the holiday spending can add up and add up fast!

Come January, self imposed shopping bans and nightly Ramen dins are often put into full credit-card-payoff effect but there's still one more holiday expense to go: thank you notes.

This year Sophie and I figured, why buy thank you notes when handmade cards are much more thoughtful and cost effective? 25 thank you notes for under $6 - yes, please!

How to: DIY Thank You Notes

You will need:
Paper
Blank cards and envelopes (we bought a 25 card/envelope pack at Michael's for $2 )
Stamps (we bought ours for $1/each)
Ink/paint (we bought ours for $2)
Paint brush (or you can use your fingers)
Pen to write your note
Postage stamps

1. Get creative with your stamps and paint on plain paper. Once you reach a pattern your satisfied with (see the 4 we made for inspiration) go to town on your blank cards.

2. Let dry then write your gracious thank you notes and send with love.

GOSH I just LOVE Mark Bittman. Besides the fact that 'Food Matters' completely changed my eating habits he put together this awesome 'Holiday Finger-Food Combination Generator' which spits out 504 (FIVE HUNDRED AND FOUR!) pretty mean little canapés.

"This is not much more complicated than making a tuna-fish sandwich sprinkled with parsley, only better. You begin by providing a base: this might be crackers, or croutons (little toast squares, really), hunks of sturdy bread or vegetables that can serve as containers: celery, endive, hollowed cherry tomatoes, those cute little pickled red peppers, tortilla chips, mini-papadums, whatever.

Then you have a spread, perhaps better (if less attractively) described as “the glue”: hummus or other bean mashes; soft, creamy cheese; “caviars” of eggplant or olives; pestos of basil or walnut; guacamole; creamed deviled eggs — you get the idea. This is the main flavor but also serves as a liaison between your platform and your garnish, which also adds flavor: minced bacon or nuts, “real” caviar, chopped cornichons or olives or capers or anchovies and so on."

Endive with crème fraîche and salmon roe? Absolutely. Papadums with hummus and pickles? Why not?

Mr. Brainwash, the alter-ego for Los Angeles-based filmmaker/street artist Thierry Guetta, has become a L.A. icon in recent years after he emerged from the eccentric camera man documenting the lives of famous street artists like Bansky in the Oscar-nominated film 'Exit Through The Gift Shop,' to a branded street artist himself creating his works all over the city.

Though his work has sparked some controversy among the graffiti art world as being just another “copy cat” of the artists he spent the last decade documenting, Mr. Brainwash has built up a loyal following and recognition from art enthusiasts all over with his pop-culture inspired works.

This Christmas day, fans of MBW can get a look inside the mind of the street artist in his brand new 80,000 sq. ft. exhibit, "Art Show 2011," that features three stories of his original works on display for a limited time only.

The new exhibit captures the very best of pop-culture icons in true MBW fashion. Images of music icons like John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix cover the walls with inspiring messages of “music is all over” and “life is beautiful.” Inside, you’ll find enlarged sculpture pieces that touch on nostalgia and immortalize childhood heroes and pop-culture icons like Darth Vadar and Mr. Potato Head. He’s also enlisted dozens of street/graffiti artists from all over to tag every inch of the walls inside the exhibit with their own artwork and signatures. Literally not an inch of space goes wasted inside this exhibit with the floors, walls and even windows painted with spectacular images and messages that both inspire and wonder.

"French shoe designer Christian Louboutin lives between two worlds. One is the realm of fashion and star-studded events—the signature red-soled stilettos he creates make regular appearances on international red carpets. The other is a private retreat nestled in the desert near the Egyptian city of Aswân, not far from the banks of the Nile. (The ruins of an ancient temple stand within walking distance of his house.), Louboutin comes here throughout the year to design new collections, rest, and practice yoga.

Once a craftsman’s workshop, the building is made of earthen bricks, employing a technique that has been used in Egypt for thousands of years. Louboutin added an additional floor and a rooftop belvedere with views of the surrounding desert. Construction wasn’t easy: In this area, temperatures can fluctuate rapidly, and building materials are often scarce. “A thousand times I thought I was going out of my mind,” he jokes.

The rooms are decorated with pieces Louboutin has collected on his travels: Uzbek embroidered fabrics, Moroccan rugs, handmade furniture from Cameroon. The waxed terra-cotta floors invite barefoot living. Still, the heart of the home is the open-air courtyard, with a fireplace that blazes through the cool desert evenings.

Among so many traditional furnishings, one piece is a reminder that we’re in the 21st century: the ultramodern telescope on the roof, trained on the stars." - ELLE Decor

Because every gift deserves a good wrap!

How to: Holiday Wrapping Paper

You will need:
Speedball carving tool
Rubber block stamp
Paint or ink
Brush
Solid color wrapping paper
Pencil
Gift

1. Draw your design onto the rubber block stamp with a pencil.

2. Hold your carving tool at an angle and cut into the block making shallow grooves along your design (cut out what you don't want to appear when you stamp the paper - like this).

3. Lay out the desired amount of wrapping paper then apply a light layer of paint to the face of your stamp.

4. Continuously stamp the surface of your wrapping paper.

5. Wrap your gift and save your stamp to use again next year!
