The elaborate brightly-domed Saint Basil’s Cathedral and the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin. Did you know Ivan blinded the architect of the Saint Basil’s Cathedral so that he couldn’t recreate the masterpiece elsewhere?

On the eastern side of the square is GUM department store; known as State Department Store in Soviet times. It now houses fancy shops and a beautiful market.

Tourist shop. Couldn’t leave without this hat.

To our delight the weather in Moscow was uncharacteristically warm which was a dream for our aimless roaming in-between fashion week responsibilities.

On our final day we made it to Red Square, a place considered the central square of Moscow and all of Russia, which I clearly could not have missed if I expected my family and friends to continue thinking highly of me upon my return. Not to mention, my nerdy-trivia-obsessed-history-loving-side has always dreamed of a visit (in one of the fur hats like above followed by a big bowl of Borscht).

e didn’t have time to take a full tour but Yana and Julie were able to improvise with the cliffs notes version which was probably more impressive than a guide reciting a script. Plus, they personally walked me through the gift shop ensuring I purchased the most traditional of Russian items: Matryoshka doll’s, Gzhel porcelain and patterned babushka scarves. That hat and a flask were purchased too, obvz.
