Have you ever been in the middle of a 6 PM yoga class and heard your stomach groan? Or worse, been in the middle of a yoga class with little-to-no energy? We’ve all been there, and guess what: it’s OK to eat before your class! I’m not talking huge, fiber and protein-packed meals, but something healthy that will spike your sugar and keep your stomach satisfied for at least 2 hours.
Smoothies are a great solution for this. The sugar from the fruit and the small amount of protein from whichever type of milk you choose keeps you full and energized. You can also try making a juice that’s targeted towards elevating energy levels.
You should give yourself up to 30 minutes to digest anything before starting your class. If you’re really hungry but planning on going to exercise, don’t have a big meal. Eat something like one hard boiled egg or hummus & veggies, but make sure you give yourself up to one hour to digest something like this. Protein is generally recommended after your workout, but you need to do what’s good for your body.
Here are 6 the recipes I like to eat before working out:
1. The Acai Bowl
2. Pineapple Raspberry Smoothie
3. Coffee Cacao Banana Smoothie
4. The Energy Enhancer Juice
5. Green Kombucha Smoothie
6. Hard Boiled Egg
What else do you like to eat before you work out?
p.s. the leggings in the photo are my current favorite – they’re the nike epic run lux dri-fit

Great post! I don’t like to eat early and so I don’t have much energy when I work out in the morning, but these smoothies sound great! I will have to try them!
almost every afternoon i eat an apple and peanut butter — simple and delicious with a bit of protein!
Almonds,Apple. Sometimes A Larbar
If I workout in the morning, I usually have half a banana with a teaspoon of peanut butter. For an evening workout I always make sure to eat two hours before the class: cottage cheese with protein powder and/or nuts work the best for me.
Thank you so much for this! It totally helped, now I have a brief idea of what I need to be eating before I work out!

Green smoothies with protein are def my go-to — I have half before the workout and half after to keep that protein fueling muscles without overfilling at the start!
oh god I needed this post!!!!!!
By the way, recently I started cooking my fav banana protein pancakes in the mornings and save some for my pre-workout meal. They are so delicious that I can eat them even cold! Check out the recipe: http://stylesprinter.com/recipe-box-protein-powder-banana-pancakes/
A little bit of porridge works for me
