7 Steps To Organize Your Makeup

7 Steps To Organize Your Makeup 7 Steps To Organize Your Makeup

Let’s be honest, your makeup counter is probably the most cluttered space in your room, second to your jewelry. It’s hard to keep it all together, from lipsticks to lip gloss to cream shadows and powder… who can keep up?!

I sought out to figure out the best way to organize makeup and in collaboration with Estée Lauder, made a video this about it.  Hope you enjoy!

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Find a space with good light and ample room
Step 2: Organize your makeup into groups
Step 3: Select & arrange a variety of containers (household, vintage, new!)
Step 4: Store by category from face to eyes, lips, nail polish, etc. Don’t forget your brushes!
*Tip: When storing lipstick, turn the labels up so that you can see the colors easily
Step 5: Don’t forget your beauty tools: mirror, Q-tips, cotton balls, tissues, tweezers & sharpener
Step 6: Add in other essentials: Moisturizer & Perfume
Step 7: Mark the date of purchase on makeup that expires

BONUS: Fill your makeup bag with everyday basics – easy to access & always ready to go!

  1. I’ve been working on a better layout for my makeup room. I feel like my vanity is getting so cluttered! Thanks for the tips, I’ll definitely try them out!

  2. These are nice suggestions for using makeup at home. What do you use when traveling or getting ready on the go? What if you used a portable “Velcro” like tray to hold your cosmetics and accessories? Beauty Butler is this product, and it is a nice way to store and protect your makeup at home and on the go. Gone are the days of accidentally forgetting mascara or digging through bags and drawers. Just Google Beauty Butler to see for yourself. 3. How do we know when makeup expires? That’s a good one, I always assumed it would be gone before expiration. Can you do a post on the effects of using expired makeup? curious….

  4. Pretty! Of course, I have about 10x more makeup than that (and none of it is Estee Lauder) so none of those tips really work for me. When we remodeled the bathroom,
I had one wall turned into a built-in closet for cosmetics. Not the solution for most people, I know, but it’s what I did. I use clear organizers from By Alegory to keep everything in order. Nail polish is stored separately in two Helmer drawers from IKEA. (Yes, I have THAT much nail polish, lol!)

  5. Best tips. I will definitely use these tips to organize my makeup. I currently have them in couple of boxes and its completely unorganized. Thanks for sharing this post
