There are few things more enjoyable than a refreshing cocktail on a sunny summer day. But as you might know, alcohol and mixed cocktails can include hundreds (sometimes thousands) of empty calories per drink! Empty calories simply means food or drink that has zero nutritional value, they do nothing for our well-being (except maybe give us a little buzz).
Alas, there are ways to add some nutritional value to our libations; besides the single glass of antioxidant-rich red wine. Introducing the Superfood Pitaya Margarita: Pitaya is the exotic fruit of the cactus plant commonly found in Central America and Southeast Asia, also known as Dragon Fruit. It’s extremely rich in antioxidants, vitamin c, magnesium, fiber, vitamin b and omega-3 fats (from the seeds). All of these nutritional components combined make this fruit an amazing beauty-enhancing ingredient – glowing skin, strong hair and bones.
This unique, nutrient-dense and low-calorie margarita is the perfect accompaniment to your chips and guac this weekend. Not to mention, it’s the most beautiful pink insta-worthy color! Happy summer!
Here’s how you make it:
Salt & cayenne to rim glass, optional
Instructions:
1. If rimming the glass: first pour 2/3 salt and 1/3 cayenne onto a plate, then slide lime wedge around the rim and turn cup over to dip into salt/cayenne mixture
2. Add everything to your cocktail shaker, but the ice, and shake! (you might need to let the smoothie pack de-frost for a few minutes)
3. Add ice to your glass, pour cocktail mixture over
4. ENJOY!
Note: You can find Pitaya Plus smoothie packs in the freezer section of most grocery stores. If you whip this up, share on insta tagging @gerihirsch and @allgoodhealth!
