The Importance Of Using Natural Tampons

We care about everything we put in our bodies so why should tampons be any different? Did you know that tampon brands are not legally required to disclose actual tampon ingredients on their packaging? As it turns out, most tampons and feminine hygiene products are made using artificial fibers, polyester, rayon, not to mention the additional chemicals involved in the manufacturing process. YUCK!

Used every month, the average woman will use 15,000 tampons and pads over the course of her life and these less than natural ingredients could have some serious side effects. No research has been conducted on the long-term effects of artificial fibers in tampons. Crazy, right?

When I began reading about all of this I could feel myself getting warm, the blood rushed to my head and I immediately began ordering new tampons.

One of the brands I discovered is LOLA. Natural tampons made of 100% cotton, their products are hypoallergenic and don’t contain any synthetics, chemicals, or dyes AND it’s a monthly subscription service so you don’t have to stress about buying more every month.

Win? I think so. Anyone else using natural or organic tampons that they like?

  1. I remember in high school (1997, ugh so old), this topic was a really big deal and the ladies started expire mending with those cups. I only know one person who still uses them today. However, Trader Joes also has a natural cotton tarpon option, at least they did a few years ago.

I personally just started using those Pearl things and I gotta say that I find it absurd that my bloody vagina smells like a floral boutique. So totally unnecessary. Thanks for the heads up about this service; I’ll check it out! 🙂

  2. And why not a menstrual cup?
Safer for your health, no waste, cheaper, more confortable (change it once or twice a day, no string outside of you body :)…
I’ve been using it for 8 solid years and would never go back to tampons, including the natural ones!

  3. So glad to see you posted this! I try to tell all my friends to switch over to organic tampons. It’s a real concern. I have been using natracare products for years. Now the honest company is making them too! Wish you mentioned that they have found glyphosate (the nasty chemical in round up that is known to cause cancer) in tampons and other cotton products. I can’t fathom how the major tampon producers think it’s ok to let women insert these toxic products into our bodies monthly for years. Kudos to you for helping educate on a broader scale!
