Wellness Challenge: Write about 2016 and 2017

Wellness Challenge: Write about 2016 and 2017
Hi! Hope you had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas if you celebrated.

Now that some of the holiday madness is over, it’s officially the brink of 2017! This is actually one of my favorite times of year—right before New Year’s Eve—because I find the start of a new year fresh and motivational. I also love the practice of writing out resolutions. I’ve written about it here before, but there’s something cathartic about putting pen to paper to map out your goals.

But what’s maybe even more important than looking ahead is checking in with your progress of the current year. Which goals did you meet? Did they make you feel good or were they more externally pleasing to others? Which goals did you fail? Why? What got in the way? Do you want to carry that goal over to 2017? How do you feel about the year in general? What positive things happened? Negative? In what moments did you feel your best?

By journaling about where you are currently, you can touch base with yourself to set up what’s next. After doing that, I like to let that sit for a day or two and then focus on my resolutions, or goals, for the next year. Up for it?

Challenge: Journal about 2016 and prep for 2017

I personally like to have some overarching goals for the year, like get more sleep, say no more often, etc. and then also break it up into more specific monthly goals. Having general things to focus on is nice, but I need some sort of “to-do list” type system for really getting things done.

I’m not too strict with the format, but that’s usually how it goes. I think the important part is getting your thoughts out on paper and finding areas of your life that can be improved.

I’d love to hear how you track your resolutions, so please share! Any great systems I should know about?

  1. I always take time to reflect on the year before and set some goals for the new year. Writing it out in a journal is definitely helpful. I actually have a progress/dreams/goals journal that I try to write in at least once a month to update on where I am, the challenges I’m facing and any achievements. This week I plan to sit with a cup of tea and read through all of that before setting my 2017 goals. We’re definitely our personal cheerleaders and we have to ignite our inspirations as best as we can. Happy new year! Here’s to achieving all your goals.

  2. I love setting myself goals for the next year and thinking of what I’ve actually achieved. The end of the year is a perfect time for such reflections.

  3. I think looking back is necessary before you look forward! Everyone deserves a pat on the back for getting through another year and no one can do it better than we ourselves~ Thank you for reminding me to journal this! x

  4. Thanks for your post!I have already wrote about 2016, but can not start with 2017. I have a plan in my mind but not in a paper…I believe that it is really important to write your plans.
