home decor: design resources

Photobucket
Just a little note to let you know I’m launching some new content: decorating my new apartment.

Mmmhmmm. I’ve moved into a new place and am starting from scratch. s.c.r.a.t.c.h. So what’s a 20-something on a budget with little interior design experience going to do to make her little pied-a-terre perfect?

Panic.

Then once the storm subsides it’s time to roll up my sleeves, get creative, search high and low for the best new and vintage buys then share it here with you, of course! The next several months will be be filled with fabric swatches, power drills, bed bath & beyond coupons, trial and error and tons of projects.

First order of duty: resources.

Other than The Selby my home related blogs were pretty limited to cooking sites. In need of design inspiration I reached out to friends, my design savvy cousin (her house is so amaz you could cry), Twitter, etc. The findings were a dream and infinite (in no particular order):

Pearl Street Interiors
Lonny Magazine
Coco + Kelley
House Beautiful
ELLE Decor
Brides.com (for great old Domino spreads)
The Glamourai’s decor posts

More after the jump…if you have any faves please leave them in the comments!

  1. Yessss, I’m in the EXACT same situation!! Where did you move to? I’m in WeHo, about to move in with my boyfriend for the first time. Our tastes don’t really match, so this might be quite the challenge. But I’ll browse these links over and hopefully come up with something to satisfy us both.

  6. Thanks for the links, Ger! I have been looking for some new ones since we moved (behind Beachwood Place-very DANGEROUS). Now what I need are some ideas to decorate my office @ work without going to overboard. A couple of simple sleek items which also make my space conducive to helping me thrive. Any ideas? xoxxo, your old babysitter (PS: Love love your blog! xtra treats after I am done reading vogue, W, etc.).

  7. Geri, you have GOT to get your hands on a show from last Sunday night which aired on HGTV, “Secrets of a Stylist”…it is the most FAB home makeover done by the most recent HGTV design star winner, Emily. She’s a fab LA-based interior stylist, and in the show, she totally revamps the co-creator of Glee’s new house (by use of mostly paint, vintage items, inexpensive finds, etc.)…TRUST ME, I just KNOW you will be totally inspired…I was!

  8. I’m overjoyed that you put up this post! I’m in the same boat, more or less, so I’m looking for decorating ideas as well. Thanks!

  10. I actually like the idea of being on a budget. I prevents you from splurging. Also, it allows you to pace yourself and come across the best possible choice.

  11. I’ve been following this blog for a little while but I just have to leave my first comment on this post because you sound exactly like me! I’m getting a new apartment in a new town right after graduation in the spring and I’ll be faced with the daunting task of making it chic and livable from SCRATCH. can’t wait to see what you come up with!

as for the links – amazing list. I always find myself going back to Alex Beauchamp’s Hygge House for inspiration: http://hyggehouse.com/ she has photos of the places she’s lived in and articles about simple/elegant living.
