I’ve always admired Jonathan Adler’s use of color but find myself a bit apprehensive whenever I come close to making a bold design choice. What if I hate it? Will I get sick of something loud? How will this transition if I want to switch up the room?

I’m hoping Jonathan Adler’s new how-to books, Happy Chic Colors and Happy Chic Accessorizing, which are full of tips, ideas, inspiration and never before seen interior design projects can help me out. My all white living room needs some Adler fairy dust, stat.

Any bold design tips? Would be greatly appreciated!

  1. This is so lovely! Love the colors and the energy. If you ever get tired of a loud style, the easiest thing to do would be to change up rugs.
Def going to loom into Jonathan alder now ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Like everyone I know who is afraid of adding color in their wardrobe, I find that instead of investing in print and bold hues such as a jacket or purse, people would usually opt of adding color to jewelry or scarves instead. It’s subtle, more affordable and when you don’t feel like wearing it, you can always take it off.

I think the same goes for decorating homes. When you want color but aren’t convinced you’ll love it long enough to keep it around, investing on a bright red sofa might not be the best idea. Instead, I suggest putting your money on the throw pillow covers that goes on the sofa. They’re not only way cheaper than buying a three seater, but it lets you alternate a few colors and patterns out without the need to commit.

  3. i LOVE how quirky johnathan adler is! these rooms look great. But i agree, color can be a bit scary. in junior high, though, i painted my bedroom bright orange and i absolutely loved it! sometimes color is just what you need at the time. ๐Ÿ™‚

    i wander, i wonder

  4. I like the colors. I think in rooms such as kitchens and living rooms color is good. Bedrooms I’d say no because if it’s too bright it can be hard to sleep. I remember reading a study that brown and taupe colors will help you sleep faster…not sure why the reason was anymore, but sounded good to me.

  5. I’m scared of bold design choices too. I just moved into a new apartment with a friend, so I make my “bold” design purchases in small. like a great lamp and a classic poster I love. it would suck to buy a large expensive rug that you’d get tired of in a month, ya know?

  6. I love color, whether in my apartment or in my wardrobe. I read this study one time and it showed that the more color in your wardrobe the happier and content you were with you life. I get the best design inspiration from Apartment Therapy. Good luck!!
