Bored of the usual top knot or ponytail for the gym? Switch it up and try these hairstyles for the gym – click the links below to watch a video to learn how to do them:
1. Faux Fishtail
2. The double dutch braids
3. Post Gym: The Low Chignon
Written instructions after the jump!
1. Faux Fishtail
Step 1: Gather hair into a low ponytail and secure with a hair elastic.
Step 2: Create a very loose regular three-strand braid only partially down the hair, then secure with another hair elastic.
Step 3: Tug on either side of the braid to loosen it up.
Step 4: Split hair down the middle and loop the pony through.
Step 5: Tug on the ponytail so it is pulled tightly through; then use your fingers to pinch and pull on the outer edges of the braid to loosen it.
2. The double dutch braids
Step 1: Apply a hair mask to strands then work it through the lengths of the hair.
Step 2: Create a clean center part from the front hairline down to the nape of the neck. Clip one side away.
Step 3: Take a small section at the front of the unclipped section of hair and begin a backwards three-strand braid (a dutch braid is created by looping the hair under each section instead of over).
Step 4: Turn the braid into an inside out french braid by adding a small piece of hair each time you loop the hair under.
Step 5: Continue adding pieces of hair until all the hair from the section is attached, then finish the three-strand braid all the way to the bottom, securing with an elastic band.
Step 6: Repeat on other side.
3. Post Gym: The Low Chignon
Step 1: Start on damp or freshly washed hair.
Step 2: Use a fine-toothed comb to slick your hair back into a low pony, securing with an elastic band.
Step 3: Twist the length of the pony until the very end, securing with another elastic band.
Step 4: Loop the twist around, creating a knot, but don’t pull the ends through.
Step 5: Use bobby pins to secure the chignon.

LOVE the faux fishtail, will definitely be attempting that before the next time I head to the gym. I always try to be as comfortable as possible while still feeling amazing about myself, it’s extra motivating! <3

Great Post! Beautiful hairstyle.
I love all of these simple hairstyles so much 🙂 I’m normally just a ponytail-when-working-out kind of girl (haha I’m just too lazy), but these hairstyles are so inspiring <3 Can't wait to try them later today! Thank you so much for sharing!
