There are so many incredible health benefits to turmeric which has made turmeric shots all the rage at juice bars. The herbaceous plant of the ginger family serves as an anti-inflmmatory, is anti-aging, a powerful antioxidant, immunity booster, can lower your risk or heart disease and cancer, reduces cholesterol, helps with arthritis pain and has been proven to help fight depression.
I personally like to take turmeric shots for a little extra detox and immunity booster during the height of flu season but they aren’t cheap, depending on the juice place shots are $4-$8. So, I decided to make them myself. Here’s how to make turmeric shots:
You will need:
1.5 cups coconut water
2 inch knob fresh turmeric
1-2 inch fresh ginger root
1/2 lemon
1-2 tablespoons honey
Pinch of sea salt
Dash of Cayenne (optional – I omit this but if you like it spicy, add a dash)
Instructions:
1. Peel turmeric and ginger.
2. Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth. About 35-45 seconds.
Serve as a shot and store any extra in an airtight container for 2-3 days.

how do you account for the honey not dissolving? if you just put it in it stays globby, but i re-blended it and it worked. thx!
Can we use turmeric powder to replace the fresh one instead?

Don’t skip cayenne! Adding black pepper to turmeric or turmeric-spiced food enhances curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times (!), due to black pepper’s hot property called piperine.
Also you need to add a bit of oil. Turmeric is fat-soluble, that means it dissolves in fat. Without fat, the active component in turmeric, curcumin, has a difficult time making it past the stomach, into the small intestine, and into the blood where it can offer the greatest benefits.
That’s why Golden Milk recipe is so great for your. All you need is milk, turmeric, ginger, dash of black pepper and a little bit of coconut oil.

spot on Isabel – one just doesn’t get the assimilation/absorption if you omit the pepper and/or oil. Hemp seed oil and coconut oil the best.
if you add both these, instead of only 30% absorption you raise it to 70-80% absorption of the active ingredient curcumum
