I usually take a smoothie hiatus during cold winter months and opt for something warm like oatmeal but this year it’s been cut short. It’s now 90 degrees here in Los Angeles (it was fun while it lasted, El Niño!) making smoothies one of the the most desirable breakfasts or mid-day snacks.
When the heat hit and a smoothie was being craved, I rifled through my fridge and came up with what I like to call “The Popeye Smoothie.” Packed with spinach and nutrients for strength like chia, flaxseed, mucuna pruriens, almond butter and vanilla mushroom protein the nice thing about this smoothie is that if you live somewhere where it’s actually cold, it has a warm, nutty, vanilla and caramel flavor making it winter approved.
Here’s how to make it:
You will need:
1 frozen banana
2 large handfuls of spinach
1 small handful frozen mango
1 serving Moon Juice Vanilla Mushroom Protein (or protein of your choice)
1 tablespoon of Moon Juice Mucuna Pruriens
1 tablespoon sprouted almond butter
1 tablespoon chia seeds (soaked for 5 minutes in a bit of water prior to adding)
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1-2 cups almond milk (depending on the consistency you prefer)
Blend and enjoy!

I’ve recently bought a blender and I’m currently looking for smoothie recipes. For now I’ve done the spinach-apple-banana and it tasted pretty good, but I see your version is more sophisticated. Will try it out!
