What To Eat and Drink For Better Skin

As the saying goes, “you are what you eat.” This is why it’s so important to understand what you’re putting in your body and how it affects you—especially when it comes to your skin.

Antioxidants, healthy fats, zinc, fiber, vitamin A/C/D, etc., all contribute to a radiant glow, can help banish wrinkles and keep skin supple and soft. So before you take that next bite or sip, keep these seven foods/drinks in mind to better your complexion from the inside out:

1. Avocados
Avocados are rich in healthy fats, vitamins A and C and fiber, which will enhance your complexion and fight aging skin.

2. Leafy Greens (kale, spinach, arugula)
High vitamin-C content helps prevent signs of aging, AND leafy greens are one of the best sources of lutein and zeaxanthin—nutrients that absorb and neutralize the free radicals created by UV light.

3. Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc which helps maintain collagen and promotes skin renewal.

4. Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the richest plant sources of key antioxidants which have anti-aging perks and are high in skin-toning vitamins C and A.

5. Salmon

Wild salmon—not farm-raised—is one of the best food sources for omega-3 fatty acids which helps keep your skin supple and moisturized.

6. Green Tea
Green tea contains antioxidants (namely EGCG) which helps boost blood flow and oxygen to the skin.

7. Lots of H20!
Water keeps your skin hydrated which makes your skin appear more plump and less wrinkled (for those that have a hard time drinking water check out the WaterMinder app—it helps me tremendously).

Also, a glass of red wine and dark chocolate never hurt neither!

  1. I definitely need to start eating more of these. My parents care for their health so much that we always have these products stocked in our fridge, but I’ve only begun to join them so I will be eating a lot more salmon and avocados from now on! Thank you for this helpful list, it’s one I needed to read today 🙂

  2. Bullcrap! I drink an average of 2-4 litres of water/tea a day and my skin is still so dry the only relief I get from the itching and bumpiness of the dry skin is from using petroleum jelly directly on my skin. In the winter I have to do this twice a day. I’m so tired of being told drink lots of water and it magically cures dry skin. I drink more liquids than most people I know and still have extremely dry skin. So 9 out10 alligators and I disagree…it doesn’t matter how much water you drink you’re still going to have dry skin!

  3. Good Article! Sharing! Nice pics! I just posted an article on my blog about Fruit Infused Water. I have an easy time eating these items, it is the water I struggle with, so I have been infusing my water to make sure I get plenty of H2O.

  4. We eat all of those regularly except pumpkin seeds. I just wrote pumpkin seeds on the chalkboard to remind my husband to buy some. I think we’ll put them in salads.

  5. Great post, really interesting! I didn’t even knew that i’m already helping my skin because i’m eating half of these products each week 🙂
