Holiday parties are the best, but getting ready for them can be overwhelming, right? A lot of times they are during the week, so them on top of a normal work day can be crazy. Plus, unless you work from home or have time to go home before—which I usually don’t, especially in LA traffic—the office is your only option for getting ready. After doing this routine for several years now, I’ve luckily come up with a system that works well. Since I know I’m not the only 9-5 party-goer this season, I wanted to share what elements I rely on to create a holiday look straight from the office.
Step 1: Fresh face & body
This is crucial for me because I hate caking on makeup and crave feeling clean before going out. I love Micellear Face Wipes to get off areas of makeup that need to be re-done (usually eyes, right around my nose). I even use these for underarms, behind my neck, and anywhere I might have built sweat.
Step 2: Makeup boost
Next, I bump up my makeup or quickly re-do anything that I wanted to wipe off. I’ll go for a simple cat eye or bold lip and will skip another full face or a heavy eye. I save those looks for when I have more time or want drama.
Step 3: Fix up hair
I honestly don’t know what I did before the invention of dry shampoo, and I’m obsessed with Dove’s. It’s crazy affordable and I looove what it does for my hair. I flip my head over, do a quick 3-second spray all over to add texture, and then I’ll focus more on my roots. I lift up a section at a time around my face to add volume/reduce oil. After about 30 seconds of letting it set, I rub the dry shampoo in with fingers and brush it out a bit. It gives me a perfectly tousled look and know my hair smells fresh.
Step 4: Get dressed
Instead of having to bring a whole new outfit to work, I’ll slip into one statement holiday piece to elevate my look. This WhoWhatWear sequin top is perfection, and the gray is a cool modern twist on festive pieces. Plus, it can go with a bunch of bottoms, like leather pants or a skirt, velvet trousers, or a fun, full skirt.
Step 5: Accessorize
Lastly, I toss on an accessory or two for fun. Whether that’s statement earrings, a textured clutch, or lush heels like these WhoWhatWear for Target red velvet ones (to-die-for!), I always bring something to the office that will take my outfit from work to party mode. This is the time of year that I like to play with textures most, so a mix of sparkle with velvet or faux fur is my way of dressing for the holidays.
Then, I’m out the door and ready for holiday cheer! Easy, right?!
