4 Of My Favorite Wellness Apps

While Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook are among the first apps I check everyday, it’s pretty safe to say that they don’t really help me step up my wellness game (Hannah Bronfman & Well+Good’s posts excluded). In fact, social media can have the opposite effect – research has shown that social media can make people feel anxious, stressed, less happy, irritated and the list goes on, which is why it’s important to balance out your phone with apps that “DO YOU, girl!”

There are four apps in particular that I love for my own personal wellness regimen including a timer to help my meditation practice, a nag to keep me hydrated and a tool to help me avoid mercury poisoning (and yes, it’s a real thing). Here are four of my current favorite wellness apps:

1. Waterminder: an app that tracks your water intake. Based on your body weight (or your personal goal), WaterMinder will remind you to drink water to reach your daily goals.
Why I love it: I’m a really bad water drinker and I swear by this app – it’s made a big difference in the amount of water I consume everyday. I’m pretty sure this is the first time in my life I’ve been consistently hydrated.

2. TM Timester: a simple timer app that serves to help people practicing Transcendental Meditation.
Why I love it: This is the first app I use everyday. My meditation teacher advised against using timer apps but I had time anxiety and was worried I would go over which took away from the meditation. This app keeps me on schedule and also happens to be free.

3. Seafood Watch: an app that makes it easy to choose seafood and sushi that’s good for you and good for the ocean.
Why I love it: It’s important to be an educated consumer, especially when it comes to food, but it’s not always easy to get answers. This app takes out all the guessing when it comes to buying fish and eating sushi, both of which I do a lot of.

4. White Noise: an app that helps you to sleep and/or feel calm.
Why I love it: Sometimes when traveling, noise can be an issue – hotel rooms are often loud and being in a new place with new sounds is harmful to sleep. And sometimes after a long day of noise, I just want to chill out to white noise or spa music. You feel me? This app offers tons of options for peaceful sounds, chimes and a campfire being two of the options!

  1. love the idea of a water app. Going to download it right now! My friends and I were just talking about how run down we feel and that we know it’s linked to not drinking enough water. Thanks for the post!
