Let’s be totally honest with one thing here; the thought of pushing a baby out of our tiny little lady region can be daunting. Or better yet, panic inducing.

Yes, every person to ever walk this earth has arrived the same way. And yes, our bodies have the knowledge deep within on how to give birth (fact: a women in a coma can birth a baby) just like they know how to grow a baby, but for a first time mom, it can still seem unfathomable.

To help calm my nerves/fears as I gear up to give birth for the first time, I did a little mantra writing exercise which I wanted to share. I sat in a quiet space and jotted down several mantras that I could focus on before and during labor and delivery. Some I came up with on my own, some I’ve heard in pre-natal yoga, some are really basic (“we got this!”) and others tackle specific fears (“I am confident, I am safe, I am secure”) and I’m sure that they’ll all be useful when the time comes. I plan to print them out so that they’re there with me when I’m pushing to serve as little meditative reminders.

If you’re pregnant, I encourage you to try this labor and delivery mantras writing exercise yourself.  And if you need a little help to get going, here are some of mine.

  1. Great gathering! I had two mantras with my first baby’s delivery that really worked for me: (1) breathe the body soft, and (2) meet resistance with surrender. My second baby is due any day now and I plan to utilize these again! XO

  2. I’m midway through pregnancy number six and it’s still scary; even though I’ve been through one c-section and four natural births previously. You just never know what to expect yet you’ve reminded me how awesome the experience can be if you focus on the outcome and your body doing what it should instead of the pain. Beautifully written
