I know everyone outside of Southern California probably rolls their eyes when us LA girls talk about ‘winter survival’, but the struggle is real here, too! At least for this born-and-raised CA girl whose skin/body/everything doesn’t react well to the couple months of cooler weather we get.
I can’t even imagine what damage winter causes in other states when it comes to everything being dryyyy, so I put together a little Winter Hair Survival Guide. Skincare might get all the focus, but today I wanted to talk about hair. Because I don’t know about you, but my hair (and scalp) freak this time of year. Here are my tips:
Limit heat exposure
I’m not just talking about heat from blow dryers, curling irons, straighteners, etc – though I do try to air dry my hair most of the time. Heat in the shower is also brutal for your hair, especially during winter when it’s already dry, brittle and dealing with artificially heated rooms 24/7.
If you’re not washing your hair, put it in a bun and keep it out of the hot water. Plus, you can skip brushing it while wet, which can cause further damage.
Use mindful products
Lucky for us, cleaner products are popping up in all forms. We’ve been using Hair Food in our home and I’ve become obsessed. No parabens, sulfates, dyes, and the product is legit.
Since November, I’ve been using the Hair Food Nourish Collection with Coconut & Chai Spice which is amazing for winter hair. It’s nourishing without weighing down my hair and keeps even the ends hydrated. The brand has a few other collections (purifying, nourishing, etc, depending on what your hair issue is). A must try!
Just like your skin, your hair deserves a little weekly treatment. This is when I focus on an extra boost of hydration for wintertime, by using the Hair Food Moisture Collection mask. I massage into my scalp and all the way down to the ends and leave it on while shaving or whatever. Heavennnn.
