recipe: chai tea

The perfect accompaniment to curling up on your couch in this cold weather? Chai Tea, of course! Here's my simple recipe (and video):

You'll Need:
   4-6 cardamom pods, bruised
   4-6 cloves
   2 tbsp fresh ginger, chopped
4 tsp loose black tea (prepackaged tea bags are fine)
   4-6 tsp raw honey
   ¼ cup milk

1. Add 4-6 cups of cold water to a deep saucepan.
2. Add cardamom, cloves and ginger.
3. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low.
4. Add black tea, raw honey and milk.
5. Simmer for 5 min, remove from heat and let sit for 5 min.
6. Serve with ladle & enjoy!

p.s. how dramatic was our song choice for this vid?

Please. Stop. Calling. It. Chai Tea. It's just chai or tea! They are the same words! Tea is English for chai! and chai is Hindi for tea! So it's redundant calling it chai tea! Please stop messing up my culture.

And you need to put more milk in masala chai or masala tea (what you just made). Just chai in india is only tea leaves, water, sugar and milk - without the cardamom or cloves. When you add these - it becomes masala chai. Come. On. People.

I couldn't get through the video without salivating! Chai/tea/chai tea (whatever)... it looks fantastic and I am going to drag out my tiny hot plate for my tiny studio kitchen just for this recipe! Thanks so much for it!

Thanks for the vid! I usually just use chai concentrate so I can't wait to try this! Also, where is your sweater from? It looks like the perfect deep V!
