I talked about Medical ID a few weeks back (here) but it’s so important that I think it deserves its own post.
Medical ID displays your name, date of birth, emergency contact name and number, medical conditions, and blood type while your phone is locked. This is critical information to medical responders during an emergency.
I know this all too well because my husband went into cardiac arrest while on a jog and all he had with him was his locked phone. He was a John Doe upon arrival in the emergency room and the social worker had to wait until his phone rang to ask the person on the other end to identify him. Once she had his name she was able to find him in their system where she located the info she needed – emergency contact info and medical history – the same info that lives in Medical ID.
My husband miraculously survived and is perfect – thanks gd – and just before we left the hospital the lovely social worker paid us a visit. She told me that when she saw how young my husband was, she noticed his wedding ring and all she could think about was the fact that his wife/family didn’t even know he was in the hospital. She told us about Medical ID and recommended we update our phones and to tell everyone we know to do the same.
So, please, please, please update your Medical ID and urge those you love to do the same. This info can help save lives.
iPhone users, here’s how to set it up:
1. Open the “Health” app.
2. Press “Create Medical ID.”
3. Fill out your information.
4. Ensure that you have “Show When Locked” turned on, so that emergency personnel can access the information even when your phone is locked. When enabled, your Medical ID can be viewed even when your iPhone is locked by tapping Emergency > Medical ID.

I agree, having the Medical ID setup on your phone is a must, I have helped all my family members get it setup now, you never know when it will be needed.
