I Tried The V-Steam And Here’s What Happened

Made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow, the V-steam is exactly what it sounds like…a steam for your V! Also known as “chai-yok” in Korean, or yoni” which is the Sanskrit word for womb or vagina, the V-steam is an ancient practice used to regulate hormones, detoxify the stomach, aid in infertility, and provide overall body wellness.

But what is the actual process? Well, funny you should ask because I actually take you with me into the treatment on our new wellness reality series, The Wellness Experiment(!!!!). Watch the episode here to learn all about it. If you’re skeptical, I’ll leave you with my results:

I recently found out that I have hypothyroid (more posts on this to come) and started taking medicine for it. The hormone fluctuation caused me to lose my period, which is apparently normal, but it stressed me the F*** out. For my entire post-puberty life, I’ve been 28 days like clockwork, so after 60 days period-free, the panic set it. I actually scheduled an appointment with a hormone specialist AND my OB the day that we went to film the V-steam episode.

When we arrived at Tikkun Spa for the treatment, the owner shared with us the many suspected benefits—one of which was “getting back lost periods.” I was VERY skeptical, but desperately hopeful that this might work for me. Two days passed, and would you believe that I got my period?! I know, I was shocked! One could argue that it was a coincidence, but whatever it was, I got it! If there’s any chance that the V-steam did in fact help regulate my hormones, bringing back good ol’ Aunt Flow, it feels like my responsibility to share this with anyone struggling with a lost period. At the very least, it can’t hurt to try it if you are having a hard time, right?

Watch the episode here to see how surprisingly fun and relaxing the treatment is, and be sure to tune in next week when we go deep into Malibu for paddle board meditation. P.S. We’ll be releasing a new episode every week!
