My October Goals

geri-hirsch-100 Goal-setting is a big part of my life. It gives me a sense of what I’m accomplishing day by day, month by month, and year by year. To keep myself truly accountable, I’ve found that writing down my goals and putting them in a specific place (my nightstand) allows me to better evaluate my strides. After doing this practice for years, I thought I’d take it one step further by publishing monthly goals on the World Wide Web, right here on the blog (also, vulnerability is Goal #1, so technically I’m accomplishing as we speak!).

Here are my goals for October:

1. Be more vulnerable.
On the inside, I feel like I’m an incredibly vulnerable person. I’m sensitive to a fault, really care what people think, and am painfully shy. On the outside on the other hand, I pull it together and try to show no sign of weakness. This was a skill I developed very young in life. I had a lot of family trouble at home and taught myself to hide it well. I masked what I was feeling and acted—for lack of a better phrase—like a robot. While the skill has proven to be beneficial in many instances, I’ve recently found that being more vulnerable goes a long way. So, I’m working on it.

2. Make the YOW a WILD success.
I came up with the idea for LEAFtv years ago and then built it, and am now trying to take it to the next level. We just launched ‘The Year of Wellness” which is a monthly subscription surrounding various pillars of wellness (each month is a different one, so think: detox, nourish, rest, focus, etc.). I’m really putting my name on the line and have poured my heart and soul into this program! I will not rest until I give my best shot at turning this into a success. That means curating the absolute best products, properly giving guidance on those products/giving the best education possible on each month’s overarching wellness theme, personally boxing up subscriptions, and writing notes until my hands bleed. It also involves yelling at the highest peak to let the world know that we exist and that this is a must-have, thoughtfully-developed program.

3. Reduce toxicity in my beauty products.
I had the chance to join Gwyneth Paltrow for a girl’s afternoon where we made flower crowns to look like the Snapchat filter (literally) and talked about her clean beauty initiative with Juice Beauty. I’ve been working pretty diligently for the last few years to reduce toxins in, on, and around my body, but listening to her preach about toxins in things like foundation inspired me to dig even deeper. I do wear toxic foundation because, I’ll admit it, it’s a vanity thing. But why? Why at the cost of my health am I reaching for the foundation packed with silicon and other chemicals known to cause hormone imbalances, and even worse, cancer? I need to do better. And more specifically for this goal, I’d like to swap out two items in my makeup bag for cleaner products. Two, that’s it. Easy!

I’ll be sure to touch base on how these goals are going next month. Do you have any goals for October?

  1. It’s really refreshing when someone in the blogosphere is vulnerable and admits to their struggles and challenges. As someone who has grown up quite a shy kid and now feel the pressure to appear like I have all my shit together as an adult, I can totally relate to #1 Goal. “Opening up” and being more vulnerable is also on my hit list.

  2. I definitely relate to goal 1! It’s something I’ve been trying to do and failing terribly. Love the post!
