7 Journaling Prompts for Getting to Know Yourself Better

Journaling is one of the most powerful tools I’ve learned about in the past few years, so I thought it would be a great topic to share and write about. You know when you find something that just works and makes you feel good and you have to tell others about it otherwise you feel like you’re doing them a disservice? That’s what journaling kind of is for me.

There are tons of different ways to use journaling as a wellness and mental health tool. Everyone has their own sort of twist they put on it, but for me, I’ve loved writing prompts to help get to know myself better. It’s really given me a sense of clarity about who I am, which has been amazing. It’s kind of crazy the realizations you can have by putting things in writing, especially when those realizations are about yourself.

It can take a minute to get into practicing this because it may sound slightly woo-woo slash cheesy, but promise it’s worth trying. For another cheesy-ish tip, try not to judge yourself when writing. Don’t worry about others reading it and be truthful. You can literally burn it after if you want, because I’ll be honest, if you get really deep it might feel uncomfortable. But it’s such a release!

Here are 7 prompts to get you started:

When do you feel your best/worst?

What makes you feel anxious?

When do you feel most at peace?

Who has been your biggest supporter(s)? Why?

How do you prefer to serve others in your daily life?

If fear didn’t exist, what would you do?

How do you take care of your own well-being (mental, emotional and physical)?

If you get through these 7 and want to keep writing out questions/prompts for yourself, this book helps. Or even just make up some yourself! It can be a fun challenge for a lazy weekend afternoon.

Is journaling something you enjoy doing? Would love to hear what you do!

Very recently I’ve been looking at journaling on Pinterest, specifically bullet journaling and I’ve found some really great ideas to develop into my own journaling. 2. I’ve always loved journaling. When I was pretty young, I would journal my most private thoughts. Unfortunately, they were so personal that I didn’t want my mom to see them so I locked them in a locker at a mall in our city. I thought they would be safe. After a week, I came back and obviously the journals had been removed because the locker had been locked for more than a day. I was too embarrassed to go and claim them, so they were lost to me forever. Huge regret in my life.

  3. LOVE this post! Journaling can be a game changer…personally and professionally. Sometimes I like to journal a letter to myself to read in the future so I don’t lose focus, get bogged down in the minutiae, or forget my goals. I tried bullet journaling, but it ended up feeling more like a “to do” list. Some people love it — wasn’t for me.

Will definitely give these prompts a try. Thanks!
