The Ultimate At-Home Hydrating Facial

If you’re in need of calming both your mind and your complexion, an at-home facial complete with a really good facial massage may just do the trick. I’ve been doing this facial once a week and always feel SO much better afterward.

One note, please leave extractions to the experts once the world goes back to normal to avoid unnecessary scaring. If you’re dealing with acne, consider adding in a peel pad like these from Dr. Dennis Gross.

Here’s how to do it:

Cleanse
Start by cleansing your face, concentrating on a good facial massage while you cleanse. If you’re a double cleanser, go for it! My two favorites right now are Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser and MARA Chia + Moringa Algae Enzyme Cleansing Oil.

Exfoliate
I swear by exfoliating a few times a week. I think it’s the secret to glowing skin, it makes your makeup look better, skincare work better and helps with pigmentation. So, let’s get the most out of this step, shall we?  I love goop’s Instant Glow, Juice Beauty STEM CELLULAR™ Exfoliating Peel Spray and Youth To The People Yerba Mate Resurfacing + Exfoliating Energy Facial with Enzymes.

Steam
Open up and deeply cleanse your pores with a good steam using an at-home steamer like this one by Dr. Dennis Gross skincare. Or DIY it by filling boiling water, letting it cool slightly then covering your head and bowl with a towel and place your face 12 inches above the water. But again, do not pick afterward!

Hydrating mask
Apply a hydrating mask. I like using a brush to make the experience feel a little bit extra. Let it set while you start the neck, chest and back portion of the neck step which is gua-sha. Watch this tutorial for how to do this. As for masks, some of my favorites include True Botanical Resurfacing Moisture Mask, Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Mask and Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask.

Oil and gua-sha
Now that you’ve cleansed, exfoliated, steamed and masked, it’s time to de-puff and get in a really good facial massage with gua-sha. Use your favorite oil for this – I’ve been using True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil in Clear to help with stress breakouts.

Light Therapy
If you have an LED light mask or a LightStim this is the perfect place to use it. I have the mask from amazon and love it – I swap out the colors depending on what I need (acne, anti-agin, etc).

Moisturize & eye cream
Coat your face with your favorite moisturizer and eye cream. I’ve been using Crème Riche Anti-Aging Peptide Night Cream. It’s a splurge but worth it! As for eyes, still loving beautycouter’s Rejuvenating Eye Cream.

Facial cooling globes
I like to end the facial by sealing in the skincare with a roll of these facial cooling globes. It’s refreshing and also happens to be how my facialist ends her facials so it reminds me of her experience.

Enjoy!
