Finding the time to workout is not easy. For may reasons. You’re tired, busy, have cramps, are starving, just ate, it’s too early, it’s too late, you just washed your hair, it’s freezing cold, it’s boiling hot, it’s happy hour, blah blah blah ‘enter every other excuse in the book.’
I use to be one of those excuse makers and then one of my really good friends, who always seemed to make it to the gym, shared her secret and it’s really quite simple: put workouts in your calendar just like you would a meeting and take it equally as seriously.
Now I schedule workouts four times per week (minimum) in my calendar and pretty much never miss. So why does this actually work? Number one, when you look at your calendar while making plans your gym time is blocked off so you don’t create scheduling conflicts. Number two, when you start to feel lazy AF and contemplate not going, BOOM! a calendar reminder pops up. And number three, you start taking workouts as seriously as you would anything else you put in your calendar.
The other trick that works: pay for a none refundable class in advance.
What’s your trick to getting to the gym?

I really should start scheduling my workouts! My motivator is the fact that i bought myself pretty Nike running shoes 🙂

This is exactly what I did. I joined class pass and I go after work. I treat is as a meeting and I can’t miss it or else I will be fined $20! Works pretty well for me!
Love to also meet with friends for a workout.. Kind of a way of scheduling it too 🙂

This really works, I schedule my workouts too.
I agree…this way works with almost everything, not only workouts 😉

I just do it no matter what!
Its in my calendar.. 6 am every day. And that also puts me in check for the nights before when I want to go out.. eat.. drink something..
100% non-refundable classes get me going! When I have an early morning class scheduled and I want nothing more than staying in bed, the thought of losing the money I paid gets me up and out, every time. I make sure to leave workout clothes out the night before as it definitely gives me that push to get changed and go!

This is such a great technique. Definitely going to try this out. No more excuses! x
I really need to get back on the exercise bandwagon! I think booking classes would probably be the best way to get me back into the rhythm.

Love these tips! Scheduling is is a good way to keep me on track too, I put it down into my Google calendar so it’s synced from my phone to desktop.

This is such a no-brainer but it does actually work. I’ve been scheduling workout time after work before heading home, packing a bag and sticking to it. Our health is such an important thing, it SHOULD be scheduled! 🙂

How beautiful you are, you look great!
I have the habit of hitting the gym every alternate weekdays so I would say this is a schedule I stick to. Thanks for sharing your tip!

the non-refundable class has been my best motivator. i buy a monthly unlimited class for a spin studio with a 12-hour cancellation window. if you don’t show up, you are charged an extra $10 on top of the monthly pass! i have never missed and i can say it is worth every penny!
You know what really works? Set your work outs early in the morning and train yourself to not think about it when you wake up – just go. Before, if I thought about it too much, I would always somehow justify staying in bed… only to feel terrible about it later. Once I decided to remind myself (as soon as I woke up) “you will be so pissed and feel so shitty later if you don’t go” and then just didn’t reason any longer, but rather got up and dressed quickly, I created the habit which now I don’t think about at all. It works partially because I’m still half asleep until I get to the class, so it’s easy to get ready on autopilot and push the reasoning out of my mind.

Totally agree with scheduling it in! Though I know myself, and what I need is an Army General stood outside my bedroom door to get my lazy ass up and out of the house. I also recommend that they follow me around the block, shouting obscenities which will not only shred all my remaining confidence, but will make me reach for the junk food cupboard as soon as I am back indoors. If anything, atleast my weight would stabilise!
